The artistic history of the Insomniac Coffee House in Hermosa Beach

Bob Hare, owner of the Insomniac Coffee House from 1958 to 1965, will discuss the artists that had an impact on the local landmark, during “Insomniac Night II” beginning at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Hermosa Beach Museum, at the Hermosa Beach Community Center, 710 Pier Ave. The program will pay special tribute to Lynn Joy “Tweakie” Kroeger, a Disney and Warner Bros. animator. Other scheduled speakers include poster artist Earl Newman; Frank Holmes, who created the cover art for the Beach Boys “Smile” album; and local historians Domenic Priore and Brian Chidester. I worked for the Daily Breeze for 33 years as its archivist and librarian. In 2009, I started this South Bay History blog in order to explore interesting historical people, places and events in the South Bay and Harbor Area. I post a new article every week.
